Relate to God, Self, and Others Properly with Tracy Harper
It's not officially called that. Yet at the heart of everything I do--speaking, teaching from the Bible, and writing--that's what I aim to communicate. Whether you're struggling to know if you matter, if you let your worth be tied to your looks, or if you are tempted to define your value by your accomplishments, I got you. I've been there. In many ways, I still am there.
To others, I may appear as if I have it all together. I'm high-achieving, goal-oriented, and wired for perfectionism. On paper, I'm a successful woman who has served in full-time ministry for over twenty years. A "professional," some might call me. I've learned much from completing seminary classes, studying the Word, and learning "on the field" as I've worked with college students for the world's largest global missions organization.
What my credentials don't show, though, is real-life rejection: the kind of rejection in relationships and in ministry (because I'm a woman) that has activated what I call my "invisibility superpower." I know what it's like to be swept into a whirlpool of negative feelings. I've battled an eating disorder. I've searched for significance and guidance in other people or things that have left me floundering, unsure of who or what to turn to next.
God has graciously, step by step, taught me to trust Him--for my worth, identity, and direction in life. Because I care deeply about helping women know and live out their God-given worth, I've chosen to be present in online spaces--despite the ongoing struggle to not let the number of followers, likes, comments, or shares tell me that I matter.
For the last five years, I've worked to reach students at the most diverse college in the nation: the University of Hawaii in Hilo, Hawaii. I've encountered God at work in young people from around the world! Living as a minority in the place where East meets West has given me a unique perspective on culture, diversity, spirituality, and theology. I've discovered that despite our differences, we all share one thing in common--we desperately want to know that we matter.
"The God Who Sees" calls us by name and acknowledges the roles that shape us. No matter what messes we've helped to make or where life takes us, God provides what we need at the intersection of our comings and goings.
Wherever you are in your faith journey in properly relating to God, self, and others, you will be spiritually encouraged every month.
